Brighter Prospects is bpTT’s scholarship programme that provides financial support to students from our fenceline community who are pursuing tertiary or higher-level education.
Scholarship recipients complete volunteer service each academic year, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to community development.
From 2003 to 2025, the programme has supported over 800 students in the Mayaro, Guayaguayare and Rio Claro communities.
The Mayaro Initiative for Private Enterprise Development (MIPED) is a microfinance loan facility that provides funding to enable entrepreneurship within our fenceline communities.
These loans are provided to persons who are unable to secure loans from traditional financial institutions. These loans support industries such as agriculture, fishing, food services, retail, tourism, and transportation.
From 2002 to 2025, MIPED disbursed a total of $150 million in loans from an initial seed capital of $7 million.
The Mayaro Resource Centre (MRC) is a multipurpose community hub aimed at fostering youth development and community engagement.
Its purpose is to provide access to high-quality facilities with state-of-the-art amenities that help promote sports, education, health, wellness, and entrepreneurship. It is the only center of its kind in the community.
In 2022, bpTT launched a STEAM and Coding programme in Mayaro which started as a summer camp and has since grown into a full-fledged academy at the Mayaro Resource Centre.
The initiative has engaged around 200 primary and secondary students, offering over 250 hours of hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and coding.
This programme is aimed at helping youth in our community build skills for the future.
The bp Renegades Steel Orchestra, is one of T&T’s renowned steelbands. This sponsorship began in 1970 with bpTT’s predecessor Amoco, and 2025 marked over 55 years of unbroken partnership for the band.
This partnership transcends traditional corporate sponsorship, focusing on cultural enrichment, community development, and the global promotion of Trinidad and Tobago’s national instrument.
The bpTT–PanTrinbago partnership began in 2024 with our sponsorship of the National Panorama competition. In 2025, our partnership blossomed into a full pan ambassadorship that includes our support for Panorama, and other key steel pan events like Steelpan in the 21st Century, Steelpan Down Memory Lane, and the World Steelpan Festival in August.
This partnership underscores bpTT’s dedication to promoting the cultural significance of steelpan music globally.
bpTT has partnered with the UWI Petroleum Geoscience programme in 2001. This collaboration aimed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the petroleum industry.
bpTT has provided financial support, industry expertise, and resources – to fund scholarships, research grants, and staffing for specialized courses.
The collaboration aims to enhance the development of local talent and support the growth of the T&T’s petroleum sector.
The Marine Resilient Initiative (MARIN) is a collaborative marine conservation programme between bpTT and the Institute of Marine Affairs, launched in 2022.
The initiative aims to restore and protect Tobago’s coral reefs and seagrass ecosystems through ecological restoration, community engagement, and scientific research.
Following a successful pilot phase in 2023, the programme received TT$7m in funding for an additional 5 years to advance marine resilience and contribute to climate mitigation efforts.
