Volunteerism Criteria for Scholarship Eligibility

Minimum Volunteer Hours

Awardees must complete a minimum of 30 hours per academic year of verified volunteer service to maintain their award.

Type of Volunteer Service

Eligible volunteer service includes, but is not limited to:
  • Community development projects
  • Environmental conservation efforts
  • Assisting at non-profit organizations
  • Educational tutoring or mentoring programs
  • Supporting vulnerable populations (elderly, disabled, underprivileged)
  • Organizing or participating in charity events
  • Activities that promote positive societal impacts (e.g. fundraising, digital skills training)

Ineligible volunteer service includes, but is not limited to:

  • Paid or unpaid internship experience
  • Paid or unpaid work experience

Verification of Volunteer Work

There is no template for submission of your volunteerism service. All student applicants must provide official documentation verifying their total number of volunteer hours served. Acceptable forms of verification include:

Signed letters from supervisors which must include:

  • - Total number of volunteer hours completed
  • - A brief description of tasks performed
  • - Supervisor's contact information for further validation

Official logs or records from the organization, including the total number of hours worked, date and description of the tasks performed.

Ethical Conduct

Applicants must uphold ethical standards in all volunteer activities. This includes honesty in reporting hours, respectful engagement with those served, and adherence to the values of the organizations they support. Any falsification of records or unethical behavior will result in a review of your continued eligibility for a Brighter Prospects award and potential disqualification from the scholarship program.

Deadline and Submission Guidelines

All required documents, including verification forms must be submitted by the application deadline date (15th August each year). Late or incomplete documents will not be considered. Students are encouraged to submit their documents at least one week before the deadline to avoid any issues with late submissions.
