The bpTT Brighter Prospects Programme has truly been a beacon of hope in my academic, personal, and professional journey. When I was denied GATE funding, the dream of pursuing my degree seemed almost out of reach. With only my mother the sole provider for our household working tirelessly to support us, paying out of pocket for my education felt overwhelming. Yet, I was determined not to give up.

In the first semester of my studies, I faced an even greater personal challenge, the passing of my father on December 20th, 2022, right in the middle of my exams. Coping with grief while balancing coursework tested my resilience in ways I had never experienced before. It was during these moments that the Brighter Prospects Programme made all the difference offering not just financial assistance, but emotional support, mentorship, and a network of people who genuinely believed in my potential.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, a field that perfectly aligns with my passion for service, culture, and community development. My goal is to use my education to bring greater awareness to the natural beauty and rich heritage of my hometown, Mayaro. I envision creating initiatives that will boost eco-tourism, empower local businesses, and celebrate everything that makes Mayaro so special.

Because of the support from bpTT’s Brighter Prospects Programme, I am not only closer to earning my degree, but I am also more confident in my ability to make a meaningful impact in my community. This programme has taught me that no matter the obstacles, with the right support and perseverance, a brighter future is always within reach. My name is Karena Dindial and I have been part of the bpTT Brighter Prospects Programme for about 3 years now. In that time, I can say without hesitation that Brighter Prospects has been instrumental in allowing me to pursue my degree in Medicine at the University of the West Indies Cave hill campus. It has not only allowed me to follow my passion for medicine, but it has also alleviated the burden of the high costs of this education on my mother, who is supporting two children in university. Coming from a single-parent household, I’m no stranger to tough situations, so this scholarship has provided me with immense relief as I continue my journey on this demanding but rewarding path.

I could never see myself doing anything but Medicine, and can say safely say that so far, it has exceeded my expectations. I plan to specialize in pediatric neurosurgery, an equally intense field of study but one that I am quite looking forward to. Aside from medicine, I am very passionate about youth advocacy, especially through education. Seeing programmes like Brighter Prospects in action is incredibly heartwarming because I firmly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and financial constraints should never stand in the way of a bright future.

My name is Abby, and receiving the bpTT Brighter Prospects Scholarship has been a truly meaningful experience for me. As a student pursuing a Bachelor's at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, the financial support provided by the programme has allowed me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies without the burden of rent and tuition stress. This has played a key role in my academic success, including earning a place on the Dean's Honour Roll.

But the impact of this programme goes far beyond academics. Knowing how deeply this scholarship has helped me with my studies, I’ve felt inspired to give back—especially to children who may face similar challenges. Through this opportunity, I volunteered at youth development camps, including the LEAP Entrepreneurship Camp (sponsored by bpTT), where I led daily icebreaker activities and managed the attendance log. I was also invited to deliver a life skills session on time management, focused on helping students manage distractions and make better study-related decisions. It was rewarding to support young participants in building their leadership and digital skills.

As a result of volunteering at the LEAP Camp, hosted by the Business Clinic, I was offered a short-term job contract with the organization. They supported my academic priorities and gave me the chance to gain valuable work experience while continuing my full-time studies. None of this would have been possible without the Brighter Prospects Scholarship.

My name is Abigail Francois and I am from the village of Guayaguayare. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago. Today, I am writing this testimonial as a form of gratitude and appreciation to the bpTT for this Brighter Prospects Programme which assisted me greatly and continues to assist me with my academics. As a second year medical student, approaching my third year at medical school, I look back and reflect on the various challenges faced throughout my journey. It was evidently seen that expenses placed number 1 as school fees, groceries, rent, transportation fees, medical books, stationeries and medical tools required for my practice were quite costly yet still mandatory.

However, through the Brighter Prospects Programme, I was able to meet my academic demands and some of my accommodation needs, encouraging me to continue to strive for excellence for I had the requisites.
